Alton Elementary School wins district Battle of the Bluebonnets

For the fifth year, Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) held a literary challenge based on the Texas Library Association’s annual Bluebonnet Award books. Each district elementary school and junior high school competed in what the district calls the Battle of the Bluebonnets.

For the second year in a row, the winning team came from Alton Elementary School. The team members are (left to right): Natalie Vidaurri, Averi Castaneda, Victoria Ramirez, Ethan Mata, Jose Cerda.

A total of 18 teams came together to compete in the quiz-show style competition. Students were challenged with questions that could come from any of the 20 books on the Bluebonnet list. Question topics included questions from the plot, theme, and characters of the books.

The team from Bryan Elementary School took second place at the Battle of the Bluebonnets. Pearson Elementary School took third place after a tie break competition with the team from Mims Elementary School.
