VMHS DECA students don ghostly appearance to make a point

Every 22 minutes someone dies in an alcohol related vehicle crash. The Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) DECA chapter tried to raise awareness of the issue through a special project they called a Black-Out Day, today.

Every 22 minutes of the school day, a DECA student would report to the DECA sponsor to change their shirt to a special black t-shirt designed for the event, and have their face painted white. The student would then report back to class and sit quietly, without interacting with anyone after their 22 minutes began. The participants also had flyers to hand their fellow classmate should they have questions about what they were doing.

The goal of the Black-Out Day is to have the student body at VMHS ask themselves what they would do if their friend was not there because they were involved in an alcohol related crash.
