VMHS academic UIL team wins district championship

                For the eighth year in a row, the academic UIL team from Veterans Memorial High School has won the district championship. Many students on the team are advancing to the regional competitions that will be held May 1-2 in San Antonio, Texas. The One Act Play is advancing to the Area round of their competition.

                Students advancing to regionals-

                Calculator Applications team placed first. Team members are: Matthew Sparks, first place; Darius Davis, second place; Henry Davis, third place; Kimberly Garza.

                Current Events team placed first. Team members are: Jaime Bazaldua, first place; Judith Haro, second place; Ethen Pena, third place.

                Computer Science team placed first. Team members are: Hector Iglesias, first place; Darius Davis, second place; Rene Olivarez; Jaime Bazaldua.

                Mathematics team placed first. Team members are: Darius Davis, first place; Hector Iglesias, second place; Matthew Sparks, fourth place; Feliciano Escobedo, fifth place.

                Number Sense team placed first.  Team members are: Darius Davis, first place; Feliciano Escobedo, second place; Hector Iglesias, fourth place; Kellen Shults, sixth place.

                Spelling team placed first. Team members are: Caroline Galvez, first place; Kimberly Garza, second place; Cassandra Galvez, fourth place; Mirna Rodriguez.

                Other students who are advancing to regionals  include: Janessa Farias, Feature Writing, first place; Michelle Mata, Feature Writing, third place; Benjamin Garcia, Informative Speaking, fourth place;  Alex Hinojosa, Lincoln Douglas Debate, fourth place; Jessica Valero, Literary Criticism; Briana Cantu, Persuasive Speaking, third place.
