Robotics teams from two Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) campuses performed admirably at the recent Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) state competition. In a field of 60 teams from across Texas, two Mission CISD teams finished in the top ten, with two others in the top 20.
The Gold Robo-Rangers from Alton Memorial Jr. High School came in fourth place, narrowly missing third place. This rookie robotics team has had a very successful first season, accumulating top performances at HESTEC, TCEA Area 1 qualifier, and their advancement to the state TCEA meet.

Another team from AMJH also performed well, finishing twelfth at the state competition. The Green Robo-Rangers consist of: Steve Hoyuela, Gabby Reyna, Nancy Olvera, Josue Silva.
The Charlie Hawk team from K. White Jr. High School (KWJH) finished the state competition in tenth place. Team members are: Tyresse Lopez, Damian Cantu, Alondra Martinez. The Bravo Hawk team from KWJH finished in 20th place. The Bravo Hawk team consists of: Francisco Garcia, Sebastian Carrillo, Anyssa Vidaurri, Karina Cantu.
The theme for this year’s arena competitions centered around Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). The challenge was to develop a low-cost robotics platform to aid USAR workers. Each team’s robot had to perform specific tasks in the challenge field; with each completed task accumulating points for the team.
The robotics competitions involve lots of teamwork, learner-centered collaboration, and college readiness skills.
