MHS student earns perfect marks at state art competition

Mission High School (MHS) senior, Pedro Cantu has earned perfect scores at the Texas Art Education Association state Visual Art Scholastic Event. Cantu entered a sculpture he calls “Heritage” into the 3-dimentional competitions.

Unlike other student competition, the VASE competitions do not have students competing against each other. Each project is judged individually and those scoring high enough receive medals. In Cantu’s case he not only received a medal for his piece at the state competition, he received perfect scores in all areas that include a personal interview, technique, personal expression, creativity, purpose, etc.
