VMHS student council earns state award

The student council at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) has achieved a number of firsts in this tenth year as a high school. This is the first time the VMHS student council attended the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC). While at that state meeting, the VMHS student council received state recognition with a Sweepstakes Award, honoring them for: Outstanding Student Council; Outstanding Drug, Alcohol, Safety, and Health; Outstanding Energy and Environment; Outstanding Pride and Patriotism; and Outstanding Community Service.

In addition to the Sweepstakes Award, this marks the first time the VMHS student council has held a District Office (Rene Olivarez, District 16 Treasurer), and the first time VMHS has been named an “Officer School.”  This will also be the first time senior officers from the VMHS student council have received TASC scholarships.
