VMHS academic UIL team wins sweepstakes at regional meet; advances students to state

                The Veterans Memorial High School academic UIL team returned home this past weekend with Sweepstakes honors earned at the Regional UIL meet held in San Antonio, Texas. The team results included the participation of the One Act Play. VMHS will also be advancing students to the state UIL competitions to be held May 19-21 at The University of Texas at Austin.

                The Calculator Applications Team, Math Team, and Number Sense Team will all be advancing to the state meet.

                The Calculator Applications Team consisting of Matthew Sparks, Darius Davis, Henry Davis, and Kimberly Garza placed first at regionals. Sparks placed first, individually at regionals. Darius Davis placed second at regionals. Henry Davis placed fourth.

                The Math Team consisting of Darius Davis, Hector Iglesias, Feliciano Escobedo, and Matthew Sparks placed first at regionals. Individually, Davis placed first and Iglesias placed third at the regional meet.

                The Number Sense Team consisting of Darius Davis, Feliciano Escobedo, Hector Iglesias, and Kellen Shults placed first at regionals. Individually, Darius Davis placed first and Feliciano Escobedo placed third.
