Pearson Elementary student is a reading millionaire, six times over

Pearson Elementary School fourth grader, Rene Villagran, has spent a lot of time this school year with his nose in a book. Enough time to read 6,001,494 words and become this year’s top district Accelerated Reader (AR), reader.  The AR program tracks the books read by students in elementary school and junior high school, and keeps a running count of words in each book they read. After reading a book, the students take a short, computer-based quiz about the book in order to earn award points. Villagran’s total word count for this school year is over 1 million more than the second ranked district AR reader.
