VMHS athletics earns several honors from RGVSports.com/RGV Sports Hall of Fame

                The athletics program at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) was well represented at the awards stage during the annual RGVSports.com/Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame awards ceremony.  The campus athletics program picked up three major honors.

                Diana Lerma was selected as a sub-5A Coach of the Year. She led the Lady Patriots volleyball team to the fourth round of the playoffs. The team also spent most of the season ranked number one in the state and even cracked the top 20 national rankings for several weeks. The very successful Lady Patriots volleyball team was also honored as the sub-5A girls team of the year.

                VMHS was also awarded athletic program of the year, sub-5A honors.

                Two VMHS athletes were also honored this year with nominations for athlete of the year in the sub-5A category. Shot put and discus athlete, Guillermo Galvan was among those nominated for boys athlete of the year. The track and field standout won the 4A state championship in the shot put. Lady Patriot volleyball standout, Shania Gilpin was among the nominees for girls athlete of the year.  The All-Valley player of the year helped lead the volleyball team through an undefeated regular season and District Championship. The team advanced to the fourth round of the 4A playoffs.
