It’s a Regional Teacher of the Year three-peat for Mission CISD

For the third year in a row, a Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) teacher has been selected as a Regional Teacher of the Year. Jesus Razo was officially names as this year’s Region One Education Service Center (ESC) Secondary Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made during a special banquet that also honored all the District Teachers of the Year from throughout Region One ESC’s service area.

Razo was selected as the Mission CISD Secondary Teacher of the year in May 2014. His application was then automatically sent in for the Region One contest. Razo will now be entered into the State Teacher of the Year contest, where he will represent the region and Mission CISD.

Razo is currently serving Mission CISD students as a math teacher at Mission Jr. High School. He has been with the district for four years.

Not only is this the third year in a row that a Mission CISD teacher has been selected as a Regional Teacher of the Year, it is also the fourth time in the last five years this has happened.

“I am so very proud of Mr. Razo,” said Ricardo López, Mission CISD superintendent.  “His honor and the strong track record of regional teachers of the year that come from Mission CISD is a testament to the talent and commitment seen in our team of Mission CISD teachers, and the quality education they are providing our community.”

Fred Estimbo, the Mission CISD Elementary Teacher of the Year was among those recognized for his selection as a District Teacher of the Year during the Region One event. He serves Mission CISD students at Castro Elementary School.

The Region One Teachers of the Year from Mission CISD over the last several years have been: Jesus Razo (current), Rosbel Pena (Secondary, 2013), Yvette Nevarez (Secondary, 2012), Dolores Reyna (Elementary, 2010). In 2008 Iris Hines was named the Region One Secondary Teacher of the Year. Hines went on to become a finalist in the State Teacher of the Year contest.
