Mission CISD Ice Bucket Challenge results

What began with the Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) Board of Trustees coming together for an Ice Bucket Challenge in support of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) related charities quickly spread throughout the district, Palmhurst, Alton, and neighboring school districts.

While Mission CISD officials have no way of knowing the totals of  monetary donations to the ALS Association that followed as the challenges spread, district officials have completed the accounting of money donated through the schools. $4,371.17 has been donated directly to the ALS Association for ALS research. $434.16 was donated to the family of Joseph Garza, the 14-year old ALS patient from Brownsville, TX. That brings the total money donated to ALS related charities on behalf of those who participated through official district efforts to, $4,805.33.

“It was such fun to see how the Ice Bucket Challenges spread,” said Patricia O’Caña-Olivarez. “I know that many people chose to donate directly to ALS on their own as a result of these challenges so I can only imagine the large impact our community and surrounding districts may have had. Thank you to all who participated, and hopefully had a little fun at the same time.”
