Alton Elementary School librarian speaks at state Social Studies conference

Alton Elementary School librarian, Yonia Martinez was asked to provide a book talk at the recent Texas Council for the Social Studies Conference, held in Galveston, Texas. The invitation came from the publishers of Our Constitution Rocks, by Juliette Turner.  Martinez’s talk was a part of a presentation by an organization called Constituting America. She was able to share how Alton Elementary has been using this library book as a teaching tool in the classrooms. The book is designed to explain the U.S. Constitution, and make it relevant to children today.

This is an example of how our school libraries are more than just a place to find books to read for enjoyment. Campus libraries and librarians also work to provide instructional resources that support the classroom curricula and lessons in all subject areas.
