MHS students combine Science class with volunteerism

Students taking AP Environmental Science at Mission High School (MHS) recently included some volunteerism with their studies. Teacher, Esther Mendez incorporated the recent Texas Butterfly Festival into her lessons on biodiversity. During their studies, students took pictures of butterflies, which were displayed during the Festival. On the community day, November 1, several students also volunteered their time at the festival. They helped elementary aged children with activities that included a digital scavenger hunt, and taking their own pictures of butterflies. These students are quickly learning that the Rio Grande Valley is one of the most bio-diverse areas in the country.

Pictured are Katherine Mendez, a Mims Elementary student who also helped out; along with Mission High School student, Jovanna Hernandez.
