Mission CISD Goes Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness

Mission, Texas- The two Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) high school football teams, along with a sold out crowd at Tom Landry Stadium took time leading into the big crosstown game to recognize Mission CISD students who have been battling childhood cancer.

The stadium was decked out in gold ribbons, bows, and signage of support of the Go Gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September). The members of the football team and others wore gold sweatbands, ribbons, buttons, etc. in support of the event.

The recognition was coordinated with the Faith Family Friends Foundation (FFF). According to the FFF 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day. More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year. In the last 20 years, only one cancer drug has been approved for children.

Eight Mission CISD students were recognized during the centerfield ceremony that included the Mission High School and Veterans Memorial High School football players and coaches, the Board of Trustees, and Superintendent of Schools.
