Construction milestone

The construction project at Mission High School crossed a milestone in the wee hours of Saturday, September 17. The first section of foundation was poured into place for the new, two-story building that is going up in the center of campus. It took a parade of 20 cement trucks just to fill this first section of foundation. Meanwhile, in Buildings M and N, work continues on new walls, ductwork, etc.

The new instructional building will include a total of 35 classrooms/labs, and large cafeteria with eight serving lines and a full cooking kitchen. A new Agricultural Sciences building is a part of the overall project and will include three classrooms, nine welding booths, and wood/welding shop area. Building M is being remodeled to house the main office areas, testing room, counselor’s offices, etc. Building N will become a JROTC building with two classrooms, a shooting range, and storage areas. The existing band hall is to be expanded into a two-story building that will be known as a Fine Arts Complex that includes spaces for band, choir, mariachi, dance, practice rooms, locker room, storage and offices. Work on expanding the band hall will not begin until after the current marching season is over.

The MHS project also includes security call buttons to enter the campus, a new visitor’s entry and parking lot on the north side of campus, new drainage system, and HVAC upgrades.
