Patriot Engineering Club has strong competitive debut

Mission, Texas- A new club at Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) is quickly making a name for themselves in competition. The Patriots Engineering Club was started just a few weeks ago. In that short time they have scrounged, and borrowed robotics kits from the Region One Education Service Center to jump-start activities. Those activities have led the engineering club students to a strong debut at their first robotics competition. They placed second and third among 21 teams participating in a recent robotics competition in neighboring La Joya. At this competition, students were given the task to design, build, and program a robot that would accomplish a series of tasks within 2.5 hours. Those tasks were not known until the competition.

Members of the Patriot Engineering Club are: Anna Vela, Marcela Martinez, Marisa Leal, Caleb Abrego, Anahi Moreno, Angel Rios, Alan Mendez, Tony Trejo, Michael Iglesias, Alejandro Martinez, Xandrea Vasquez, Briana Diaz, Diego Luna, Armando Martinez,Emmanuel Martinez, Damian Cristobal, Damian Gonzalez, Julio Villarreal, Alan Vela, Luis Chavez.

The Patriots Engineering Club was created to encourage students to pursue STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) careers. Club sponsors say they also hope it enhances the student's’ technical, presentational, personal, and leadership skills.
