Mission CISD to host unique Robotics event for students and teachers

Mission, Texas- What do you get when you bring together about 1,000 students and a nationally recognized educator and the subject of a major motion picture and documentary film? You get the Mission CISD Robotics Revolution. The Robotics Revolution event will feature Fredi Lajvardi, a nationally recognized STEM educator and subject of the critically acclaimed documentary, Underwater Dreams, and the major motion picture, Spare Parts. The event will include robotics and engineering students from each Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) campus, elementary school through high school. It is designed to inspire and challenge the students.

Over the last several years, Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has been building a strong reputation in the area of robotics. This has included robotics teams qualifying for state and national competitions. District officials are now expanding upon those successful robotics programs and hoping the Robotics Revolution event will help inspire and challenge the students. A special afternoon session is being planned specifically for the teachers involved in the robotics and engineering teams.

The Robotics Revolution will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Palm Valley Church main auditorium on Tuesday, November 8. Mission CISD robotics students from each elementary school, junior high school, and high school will attend. In addition to Lajvardi’s presentation, students will have the opportunity to check out robots from South Texas College’s Institute for Advanced Manufacturing. This will include demonstrations and the chance to visit with their students and staff about the sciences and robotics.

The special teacher session will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Mission Collegiate High School. This is designed to provide a more intimate exchange between Lajvardi and instructional staff as they explore together.

The theatrical trailer for Underwater Dreams is available online, http://www.kepplerspeakers.com/2014/10/underwater-dreams-official-trailer/. Other samples of Lajvardi’s presentations are also available through the website.
