Mission Jr. High School (MJH) students, staff, and district administration celebrated the official completion of the new cafeteria building at the campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The new building was recently completed and provides the campus with much needed dining area space and performance space.
The new building has a true cooking kitchen, and is the only one in the district so far. It will enable the kitchen staff to cook almost everything there instead of the district’s main central kitchen facility. All other cafeterias provide for final meal preparations only. A new cafeteria under construction at Mission High School will also be a cooking kitchen.
The new MJH cafeteria building is 12,355 square feet and is designed to seat over 300 students and includes a stage with performance quality sound and lighting. The old cafeteria stage area was very small and was very cramped for any theatrical or musical performances. The building was designed by PBK Architects. ECON Construction was the general contractor for the project. The total cost for the building, including kitchen equipment, was $3.5 million. It was completed in 11 months.
The old cafeteria building may be converted to serve as a theater and arts instructional area.
