Robotics season is underway and expanding

January 9, 2017- Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) has been one of the dominant forces in robotics competitions the last few years. As we begin the second half of the school year, teams of students from all our schools are getting geared up for the start of another season of robotics competitions.

One of the first competitions to officially get underway also represents an expansion of Mission CISD in robotics competitions. The Mighty Robo-Rangers are entering a team into the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition for the first time. This will be the first time Mission CISD has entered a team into the FIRST Robotics Competitions (FRC). The Robo-Rangers joined others from throughout the region and Monterrey, Mexico for the official kick-off event for the 2017 FRC game titled, STEAMWORKS. Twenty-two members of the Robo-Rangers and their coaches/sponsors were presented with all they will need to enter the competition. They now have six weeks to research, strategize, plan, build, test, and prepare for the regional competitions held to qualify for the FRC World Championships held in Houston, Texas in April.

This year’s competition game will be a challenging one. Here is a link to view a short video that shows what will be involved in the STEAMWORKS game, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMiNmJW7enI.
