Campus teachers of the year announced

            Mission, Texas- Each Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) campus has made their selections for Teacher of the year at their school. These top educators were then entered into the Mission CISD Teacher of the Year program. It is from this program that one elementary and one secondary teacher will be selected to represent Mission CISD in the Regional Teacher of the year contest.

            The 14 elementary Campus Teachers of the Year for this year are: Esmeralda Santos, Alton Elementary School; Aurora Estrada, Bryan Elementary School; Priscilla Ramos, Cantu Elementary School; Sherlyn Estacio, Castro Elementary School; Nancy Ramirez, Cavazos Elementary School; Yolanda Gonzalez, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Deborah J. Leal, Leal Elementary School; Maria Guadalupe Dominguez, Marcell Elementary School; Gloria Padron, Midkiff Elementary School; Julia Otken, Mims Elementary School; Maria Cantu, O’Grady Elementary School; Rita Perez, Pearson Elementary School; Maritza Mendoza, Salinas Elementary School; Tara De La Vega, Waitz Elementary School.

            The nine secondary Campus Teachers of the Year are: Jennifer Rodriguez, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Monica Salinas, K. White Jr. High School; Mike Saenz, Mission Jr. High School; Mayte Flores, R. Cantu Jr. High School; Aracely Chapa Leija, Mission Collegiate High School; Shirla Blackwell, Mission High School; Judy Rodriguez, Veterans Memorial High School; Garrett L. Mason, Roosevelt Alternative School; Jaime de la Garza, Mission Options Academy.

            Each of these teachers was tasked with filling out a questionnaire used in the Texas Teacher of the Year program. The questionnaire is then reviewed by a panel of judges selected from the community. These judges make the final selection of the two teachers to represent Mission CISD in the regional competition. The judges’ decision will be announced at a special Teacher of the Year Luncheon to be held during Teacher Appreciation Week, Friday, May 5 at Balli’s Social and Event Center in Mission. Each campus Teacher of the Year will also be honored by the district administration and Board of Trustees during this special luncheon.
