VMHS FFA Chapter students earn awards and scholarships at stock shows

            Mission, Texas- The Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) FFA Chapter members participated in two stock shows this year. The first of the season was the South Texas Agriculture Roundup (STAR) Show held in Edinburg, Texas. The second of the season was the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show (RGVLS). Honors were earned by students at each show.

            Students earning champion honors, scholarships, or places in the auction for their projects at the STAR Show, include: Javier Martinez, grand champion market hog; Randy Ruiz, reserve champion senior breeding hog showman; Marky Diaz, STAR scholarship; Javier Martinez, champion dark cross market hog; Melanie Turrubiates, first place market steer division, sold at auction; Marky Diaz, first place market hog, sold at auction; Andrea Garza, third place market hog, sold at auction; Alfonso Perez, fourth place market hog, sold at auction; Randy Ruiz, fifth place market hog; third place breeding hog, sold at auction; J.D. Garcia, first place market lamb, sold at auction.

            The VMHS FFA Chapter also earned the STAR Gala Excellence Award, recognizing FFA chapters that exceeded the goals set forth by the STAR Gala committee.

            Results for the RGVLS include: Marcus Cordova, reserve champion fine wool cross lamb; Klarissa Farias, cover girl first runner up, cover girl scholarship; Alexandra Salinas, second place market goat, sold at auction, second in showmanship; Jorge Salinas, third place market goat, sold at auction; Klarissa Farias, third place market lamb, sold at auction; Kaitlyn Ramirez, third place market hog, sold at auction, first place dress in the cotton style show; Alyssa Vento, third place in taxidermy excellent project, sold at auction; Jeremy Cardenas, excellent project-BBQ pit, sold at auction; Marco Diaz, excellent project-wood ice chest, sold at auction; Joey Farias, excellent project-table top cutting board, sold at auction; Klarissa Farias, excellent project-table top cutting board, sold at auction; Omar Gonzalez, excellent project-BBQ pit, sold at auction; Javier Martinez, excellent project-table top cutting board; Ryan Ochoa, excellent project-BBQ pit; Kaitlyn Ramirez, excellent project-home furniture, sold at auction; Randy Ruiz, excellent project-boot rack, sold at auction.
