Food Drive Prize

Students in three Mission CISD classrooms got their reward today for bringing in the most food during the community service challenge food drive organized and sponsored by the Mission High School FFA Chapter. The winning classrooms were: Rene Garza’s classroom at Pearson Elementary School, E. Santana’s classroom at R. Cantu Jr. High School, and I. Becho’s classroom at Mission High School.

In the past, the winning classrooms received a food related award. However, the MHS FFA Chapter chose to support the Mission CISD effort in promoting a healthier school community by switching to use a non-food reward for the classroom prize. The three winning classrooms received an all-expense paid half-day bowling party and field trip to Incredibowl in Mission.

The generosity of Mission CISD students and staff in the district resulted in a total of 47,110 items that were divided between the City of Mission Food Pantry and the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church Food Pantry to help local families in need.

Thank you to all the students and staff for their donations, and to the MHS FFA Chapter for not only coordinating the project, but for also supporting the district’s efforts in making healthier choices.
