Migrant students get American history and government lessons in Washington, DC

 

            Mission, Texas- Ten students from Mission Consolidated Independent School District’s (CISD) three high schools have returned from a special trip to the Nation’s Capitol, Washington, DC. The students participated in the Close Up Leadership Conference, which did give them a very close up view of politics in our country.

            The students who participated were: Isabella Ayala, Mission High School (MHS); Elizabeth Bustillos, MHS; Joshua Cantu, MHS; Jose H. De La Fuente, Mission Collegiate High School (MCHS); Clarissa Garza, MHS; Luis Ibarra, MCHS; Rudy Morales, MCHS; Frankie Pascual, Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS); Janie Perez, VMHS; Josue Silva, MHS.

            Students attended seminars that focused on the study of democracy in the United States, and included lessons on the inner workings of our government and political structure. Students also met with members of Congress during their time on Capitol Hill. In addition to the formal lessons and sessions, students, were able to tour monuments and museums.
