VMHS students earn spots in regional band, advance to area competitions

            Mission, Texas- Fifteen students from Veterans Memorial High School have earned spots in a Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Region 15 Band. Hundreds of band students from Roma to Pharr competed for the honor of making a regional band, and possibly advancing to the Area level of competitions.

            Making the TMEA Region 15 Concert Band are: Alexandra Galvez, flute; Bethany Duke, clarinet; Carlos Sepulveda (not pictured), alto saxophone; Julio Villarreal, trumpet; Rodrigo Flores, trombone. Making the TMEA Symphonic Band are: Laura Barba, flute; Matthew Garcia-Perez, flute; Daniel Martinez, clarinet; Paul McCoy, tenor saxophone; Juan Mercado (not pictured), bassoon; Brandon Salinas, trumpet. Making the TMEA Region 15 Honors Band are: Kelly Lam, clarinet, Fabian Gutierrez, bass clarinet; Rodrigo Barrera, horn; Damian Gonzalez, euphonium.

            Of these 15 students, three were selected to advance to the Area level of the TEAM All-State selection process. They are: Fabian Gutierrez, bass clarinet; Rodrigo Barrera, horn; Damian Gonzalez, euphonium. This competition will be held in January at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
