VMHS mariachi advances to state UIL competition

            Mission, Texas- For the third year in a row, the Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Mariachi Toros de Plata is making their way to the state UIL mariachi contest. The group recently qualified for state after earning Division 1 Superior ratings from judges at the regional mariachi competition.

            The members of the VMHS Mariachi Toros de Plata are (pictured top to bottom/left to right): Isaac Morin Duarte, Ramiro Flores, Alberto Aguilar, Brandon Salinas, Jaime Perez, Adam Barrera, Sergio Rosette, Selina Barrientos, Melanie Pena, Samantha Perez (Mission Collegiate High School), Olivia Flores, Dulce Garcia, Araaly Aguilar, Aylin Sallinas, Kitana Garza, Victoria Cantu. Directors are: Victor Galvan, Francisco Vela Jr.

            The state UIL mariachi competition will be held February 23-24 at The University of Texas-RGV.

Earlier this school year, the Mariachi Toros de Plata qualified for the state Texas Mariachi Music Educators competition.
