Mission CISD crowns the district’s top spellers

           Mission, Texas- After starting with a field of 36 competitors, it took about two hours to whittle that number down to one person, who is this year’s top speller in Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD). Sophia Hernandez, an eighth grade student from K. White Jr. High School (KWJH)l won this year’s annual district spelling bee. Hernandez will now advance to the Annual Rio Grande Valley Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday, March 3 at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen.

        Midiam Cruz, a fifth grader from O’Grady Elementary School came in second place. Third place went to Stella Venecia, a third grader from Midkiff Elementary School. .

           Contestants came from each Mission CISD elementary school and junior high school and included students in grades 2-8. The other top spellers who competed in this year’s Mission CISD District Spelling Bee were: Alec Hernandez and Samuel Perales, Alton Elementary School; Aonso Gonzalez and Priscilla Rivera, Bryan Elementary School; Daniel Vaquera and Angel Luna, Cantu Elementary School; Guadalupe Del Valle and Frida Vargas, Castro Elementary School; Ximena Bien-Aime and Shayleen Aguayo, Cavazos Elementary School; Joseph Belton and Carlos Cantu, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Max De Los Santos and Isaac Guerrero, Leal Elementary School; Victoria Guzman and Isaiah Montelongo, Marcell Elementary School; David Leal, Midkiff Elementary School; Arturo Lawing and Andres Martinez, Mims Elementary School; Ashley Relko, O’Grady Elementary School; Henry Santos and Galilea Hernandez; Pearson Elementary School; Jordan Briseno and Jazmine Hernandez, Salinas Elementary School; Connie Marroquin and Ryan Long, Waitz Elementary School; Michael Garza and Andres Osornio, Alton Memorial Jr. High School; Alinah Hernandez, K. White Jr. High School; Jackie Padilla and Sienna Garza, Mission Jr. High School; Brian Quintanilla and Meagan Turrubiates, R. Cantu Jr. High School.
