VMHS student film project advances to state finals of UIL Young Filmmakers competition

Mission, Texas- In a first for the district and Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS), a student film project is advancing the state finals in the UIL Young Filmmakers competition. The VMHS Harlequins film team entry, “Francis,” is one of six advancing in Division 2 of the digital animation category. The powerful story has also garnered the project a nomination for the Nobelity Social Impact Award, for which it is also a finalist.

The film was written and animated by Fabian Gutierrez. Original music is by Samuel Gonzales and Fabian Gutierrez.

Screenings of the student film finalists will be done at the UIL Young Filmmakers Festival to be held in Austin, Texas on February 28. Screenings start at 3:30 p.m. with the awards from the festival to be given after the screenings that evening. The festival will be held at the Historic Paramount Theater.
