MHS students earn honor at recent visual arts competition; one advancing to state

            Mission, Texas- Mission High School (MHS) students recently earned quite a few honors at the area Texas Art Education Association (TAEA) Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE). A total of 24 medals were earned by MHS students.

            Valeria Lopez not only received a medal for her entry, but it is now advancing to the state VASE contest to be held in April.

            Other students earning medals in division one include: Karla Gonzalez, one medal; Jesse Garcia, two medals; Yulissa Moreno, one medal; Kaitlyn Munoz, one medal. Students earning medals in division two include: Jesus Cortez, two medals; Alexis Garza, one medal; Richard Guzman, two medals; Alan Miranda, two medals; Jessica Sandoval, one medal. In division three, Danielle Leal earned one medal. Students earning medals in division four include: Rachel Clark, two medals; Fernanda Hernandez, two medals; Rebekah Nolan, two medals; Kimberly Pacheco, two medals.

            An added honor for Valeria Lopez as she prepares for the state competition is she will get to see people wearing some of her artwork. Her artwork entered into the state VASE t-shirt contest was selected as the winner and is being used for the state event and will also be sold at the TAEA fall conference and other regional events in 2019..
