The Patriot Stars Drill Team had a successful season this year, at competition and they were able showcase their talent. In January, the Stars had an opportunity to perform during halftime at a RGV Vipers home game. They recently competed at the MA Dance Rio Grande Classic Contest held at Palmview High School on March 31st. They returned from that competition with the following awards:
3rd Runner Up – Division I Superior Rating by Jasmine Salazar
Outstanding Dance Technique for Team Contemporary and Team Pom
Choreography Award (For the team that displays creativity, innovation, and has audience appeal)- Team Pom, Team Jazz, and Team Contemporary
High Point Award, highest scoring routine in each category & Large Team division- Team Jazz and Team Contemporary
Team Super Sweepstakes (meaning they received a 90 or above for all 3 team routines from all judges)
The Partiot Stars are under the direction of Ms. Yajaira Lopez and she is assisted by Laura Coria. In memory of Jaime Guttenberg, the team wore orange ribbons during their competition, she was a victim of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting who was also a member of her high school’s dance team. Teams all over the country are wearing these ribbons in her honor.
