All Mission CISD elementary schools to join others in state for Texas Reads One Book

Mission, Texas- As a part of Mission Consolidated Independent School District’s (CISD) Read to Lead literacy initiatives, all district elementary school will be participating in Texas Reads One Book on Monday, April 16, at 9:00 a.m.

The Texas Reads One Book celebration will include a video feed by Jason Garrett, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Garrett will read the first chapter of the book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverly Cleary.

“What makes this fun is the idea of joining in with schools and students from across the state in sharing a good book,” said Cris Valdez, interim superintendent. “It is like one giant book club meeting held via the internet.”

Valdez said the event ties in well with the district’s other reading and community literacy projects. She said there will also be activities for parent involvement with the book at home, in addition to lessons for the students during school.

Members of the maintenance, transportation, and central office staffs will also have the opportunity to participate in Texas Reads One Book event. This will be the third year Mission CISD elementary students participate in Texas Reads One Book.

Texas Reads One Book is a project of the Texas Association of School Administrators, with support from the nonprofit family literacy organization, Read to Them, and the School Superintendents Association.
