MCISD Unites to Fight for a Cause

Mission CISD hosted the Relay for Life Walk on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Tom Landry Stadium. The campuses from throughout the district were in attendance to support this great cause. Ms. Cris Valdez, MCISD Interim Superintendent, welcomed everyone to the event on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the district. Participants from neighboring districts were also in attendance to take their turn to walk.

The Relay for Life is a fundraising event organized by the American Cancer Society. Mission CISD raised $29,949 to help the ACS to continue the fight against cancer by conducting research for a cure, providing lodging for patients, and also by supporting patients and caregivers. To kick-off the relay the survivors lead the way for the first lap while caregivers/supporters walked the opposite way and met in the middle to walk the rest of the way together in solidarity. Many of the participants had their tents set up and were dressed in an 80’s theme as they waited to take their turn to walk.

The top three MCISD teams are;

  1. Captain J. Castro Elementary - $2,636
  2. Arturo Cantu Elementary - $2,511
  3. Bryan Elementary - $2,450

Congratulations to everyone that participated in this event, Team Mission CISD did a fantastic job fundraising for such an important cause as the American Cancer Society.
