Girls organization uses running to inspire and motivate

Captain Joaquin Castro Elementary participated in the Girls on the Run (GOTR) event on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Brownsville Sports Park. The girls that participated in this event chose their “Running Buddy” for this 5K run. Parents, friends, and teachers completed the 3.1mile course and earned a GOTR 5K medal.

The Girls on the Run organization uses running to inspire and motivate girls, encourage lifelong health and fitness, and build confidence through accomplishment. Their vision for this program is to envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. GOTR promotes self-esteem, self-confidence, caring for others, character, and how to succeed in life.

The Girls on the Run organization started in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina with thirteen brave girls, the program then grew the following season. What started in one school now expands over all 50 states and the District of Columbia with over 200 councils.
