Alton Recycle Bowl winners announced

Mission, Texas- In the closing days of the school year, the City of Alton made two award presentations to two of our schools as a part of the Alton Recycle Bowl Competition. Each year, Alton area schools from Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) and the two neighboring districts participate.

Waitz Elementary School was the winner in the elementary school division. Alton Memorial Jr. High School was the winner in the middle school division.

The competition ran from February 1 through May 4. Each participating school had recyclables picked up by the City of Alton throughout the time period. All items had to be sorted as cardboard, aluminum, paper, and shredded paper. At the end of the competition, the school that collected the most, by weight, wins.

Waitz Elementary School collected 2,876 pounds of recyclable materials. Alton Memorial Jr. High School collected 5,121 pounds of materials.

Pictured are representatives from both schools who were responsible for organizing the collections at their campus or classroom that collected the most.
