MCISD Migrant students attend leadership conference in Washington, D.C.

Mission CISD students from Mission High School, Veterans High School and Mission Collegiate High School take a special trip to the Washington, D.C. They had the opportunity to attend the Close-Up Leadership Conference held on June 24 – June 29, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City.

Students attended seminars at the conference that focused on the United States democracy and government. They also had the great privilege of being Congressman Henry Cuellar’s guests while at the U.S. Capitol plus enjoyed many historical sites and museums.

Workshops and seminars like these help students make personal connections to the roles that they have as ordinary citizens and how that plays out in the U.S. democracy. So, not only do they get to listen to the instructor’s lectures and presentations but they also get to visit historical sites where many important events took place.

The students that participated on this historical trip were: Angela M. Calacuayo, Reyes Andrea Cordova, Brianda Grimaldo, Isaias Oviedo, Mackenzie Oviedo, Nallely Pena- Sanchez, Jennifer Salians, Cristian Treviño, Anyssa Vidaurri, and Angela Zapata.
