District officials celebrate aquatics center completion

Mission, Texas- Mission Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) officials took a moment to celebrate the recent completion of the Mission CISD Aquatics Center. This represents a new beginning for an older facility.

Formerly known as the Northside Pool, the Mission CISD Aquatics Center began as a joint venture between the school district and the City of Mission in the late 1980’s. Located on a part of the Mission High School campus, the pool facility was jointly operated for many years.

In 2014, a feasibility study was conducted to help determine the best course of action for pool and facility repairs and/or improvements. After discussions between city and district officials, an agreement was reached that released the city from the joint operations venture. Part of the agreement was for the City of Mission to contribute $405,000 towards the needed pool repairs and renovations, while the district would cover the remaining costs associated with the renovations and repairs. The total cost associated with the project was $1,641,114.

Work was completed in March 2018, after which time, district officials went about hiring staff needed to manage and operate the re-named Mission CISD Aquatics Center. Over the summer, the aquatics center served district students while also offering swimming lessons and lap swimming for members of the Mission CISD community for a small fee. Schedules for future use are being developed.
