MHS librarian to be honored

Mission, Texas- Mission High School (MHS) librarian, Margie Longoria will be honored on November 3, 2018 by the South Texas Literacy Coalition. She will be given the Literacy Excellence Award for Librarians during the Coalition’s annual Historias De La Vida Celebration that will be held at the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library in Edinburg.

Each year, the Coalition selects a librarian from each of three sectors to honor: public, school, and academic. She was chosen from ten nominees in the school category. They are selected based on participation in activities and the Coalition, as well as their community involvement, and innovation.

Longoria has been very active in promoting reading and literacy, not just at MHS; but also in the RGV as a whole. She has served the Texas Library Association, worked on the Festival of International Books and Art (FESTIBA), and has a regular column in The Monitor that promotes Young Adult novels and reading. She was also instrumental in starting the Border Book Bash. The Bash is an annual event designed for young reading that brings in authors to speak with participants.
