Mission, Texas- A reading challenge for students in grades pre-k through eighth, had students gobbling up as many books as possible through the district’s online library, myON. Called the Turkey Trot; students had about a month leading into the Winter Break to read as many books as possible. A free Kindle Fire was given to the five top readers in the contest.
They are: Emmanuel Pesina, Salinas Elementary School; Cesar Escobedo, Cavazos Elementary School; Isaac Ojeda, Castro Elementary School; Linelle Gonzalez, Escobar/Rios Elementary School; Aldo Gonzalez, Escobar/Rios Elementary School.
Together, these students read a total of 1,660 books.
The contest was coordinated through Kristi Santana, teacher at R. Cantu Jr. High School, and Lolly Pena, coordinator for library services and instructional technology.
