Nurse and Counselor Legal Notice
All Mission CISD campuses employ at least one full-time nurse and one full-time school counselor at each campus to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns, including social, family, or emotional issues, as well as referrals for substance abuse and/or more severe mental health-related issues. In addition, all counselors and staff members have been trained in Mental Health/First Aid Training.
Physical Health
In accordance with Board Policies EHAB, EHAC, and FFA, the District will ensure that students in Kindergarten through grade 5 engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day or 135 minutes per week. Students in grade 6-8 shall engage in 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day for a least four semesters, or at least 225 minutes of moderate or vigorous physical activity within at two-week period for at least four semesters. Students in a high school Physical Education course shall be actively engaged 50% of the time in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
Nutrition plays a key role in physical health and information regarding the District’s wellness plan and nutritional guidelines for students is found in Board Policy FFA(LOCAL).
The District also performs required health screenings as designated in Board Policy FFAA.
Mental Health
A full-time school counselor is available at all District schools to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns, including such areas a social, family, or emotional issues, or substance abuse. The counselor may also make available information about community resources to address these concerns.
