Mission CISD online registration for current students begins Monday

                Continuous work by Mission CISD (Consolidated Independent School District) to streamline the registration process for the parents of students, will take a huge step forward beginning April 7. Beginning on April 7, parents of currently enrolled students in Mission CISD will be able to take advantage of registering their children for the 2014-2015 school year, online. This will be the first year the district has offered the service.

                “The last two years we streamlined the registration process into packets of forms to be reviewed and signed by parents,” explained Craig Verley, director of public relations. “If parents completed the registration packets and returned them to the schools before the end of the school year, they were able to avoid going to the campus in August for what had been a lengthy process. We hope the start of online registration will improve upon the registration process for the majority of our parents.”

                In order for parents to be able to complete the registration online, parents will need to have an account in the district’s Parent Portal system. This also requires parents to have an email address.

                The last several weeks, district and campus officials have been reaching out to parents to let them know about the coming of online registration and to help parents sign up for email accounts and Parent Portal accounts in advance of the online registration.

                The window for online registration will be April 7 through May 16. For parents who complete their student registrations the first week of the online window, they will be entered into a drawing for a Chromebook laptop computer. There will be one drawing per Mission CISD school. This will be for registrations completed April 7-April 12.

                In an effort to help families who may not have Internet access at their homes, a special Online Registration Fair will be held on Saturday, April 12 at each Mission CISD junior high school from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Parents can go to the closest Mission CISD junior high school to register any of their Mission CISD children who are currently enrolled. Special computer labs will be set up for the Online Registration Fair and campus/district staff will be on hand to help with the process. Last minute help in setting up email accounts and Parent Portal accounts will also be available at the registration fair.

                District officials hope this process not only saves parents time, in the long-run, but that it will also encourage them to use the district’s Parent Portal to keep up with their child’s progress in school. Through the Parent Portal, parents can access things like: grades, attendance, schedules, and communicate with teachers.

                Parents who do not have Parent Portal accounts can request one online in the “Parents” section of the main Mission CISD website, www.mcisd.net. An email address will be needed to complete the Parent Portal request.  If a parent needs help in setting up a personal email account, they can contact their child’s campus or attend the Online Registration Fair on April 12.

                When the online registration service is available, links will be found from the “Parents” section of the main district website, www.mcisd.net. A link will also be included in the “News and Announcements” section.
