🎶 Mission CISD Music Department

Empowering Students Through the Art of Music

The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) Music Department is dedicated to providing students with a comprehensive and enriching music education experience. From elementary through high school, students are offered opportunities to explore various musical genres and develop their talents in a supportive and inclusive environment.

 

Program Highlights

  • Elementary Music: Students in grades K-5 are introduced to the fundamentals of music, including rhythm, melody, and harmony, through interactive lessons and activities.

  • Band: Starting in 6th grade, students can join the band program, where they learn to play various instruments and perform in concerts and competitions.

  • Choir: The choir program offers students the opportunity to develop their vocal skills and participate in choral performances.

  • Orchestra: Students can join the orchestra program to learn string instruments and perform in ensemble settings.

  • Jazz: The jazz program allows students to explore improvisation and perform in jazz ensembles.

  • Classical Guitar: Students can learn to play the classical guitar and perform a variety of musical pieces.

  • Conjunto/Mariachi: This program celebrates Hispanic heritage through traditional music and instruments.

 

Recent Recognition

In 2019 and 2025, the VMHS Marching Band was a UIL 5A Area G Finalist, ranking among one of the top marching bands in the Rio Grande Valley. 
In 2025, the VMHS Jazz Band was awarded the Grand Champions of the McAllen Jazz Festival, a first in MCISD history.
